Simon calls Clary from outside the church and when she comes out they are attacked by one of the demons in episode 1x01 “The Mortal Cup”. Clary, Simon, and Jace head inside and the police arrive to investigate the body in episode 1x02 “The Descent Into Hell Is Easy”.
