The RMS Queen Mary is a British ocean liner that first sailed in 1936 as the flagship of the Cunard-White Star Line. The ship sailed the route between Southampton and New York and held the regular speed record for that route until 1952. The Queen Mary was retired from service in 1967 due to the rise of jet travel and was sailed to Long Beach where it has been permanently moored since. The ship currently houses a hotel, several restaurant, and a museum and is on the list of Historic Places.
